This is a small exercise: during the day, take a moment, pause and ask yourself: ‘What struck me, what surprised me?’ ‘What has been new or different to what I expected or to what I (always) thought?’
You may start to see patterns, get new and fresh ideas or become more aware of your own assumptions. You may come to see the other person or the situation differently.
Why is this important or more importantly, why is this helpful? Our brain works very efficiently. We are programmed for routines. Our perception is helped by our history. And that is not necessarily effective!
